Co-Delivering Scrum Course with Jeff Sutherland

Joe Krebs (Incrementor) and Jeff Sutherland, co-creator of Scrum, will be co-delivering a Scrum Master training course in New York City on the 20th and 21st of January 2011.  The Scrum Tour had then, two official tour-stops with both co-creators of Scrum (Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland) within a 3-month window. Both courses with Ken and Jeff are offered as open enrollment, so that everyone (individuals or groups) has the  opportunity to enroll.  Registration is now open, but we will continue to share more details about this training later in September on Scrum Tour. The first 10 registrations prior to December 2010 will receive an early bird discount of $400.  Please reach out to us directly at training@incrementor.com if you have questions about this course.

In the meantime, we continue to deliver our successful Incrementor Scrum training privately (on-site) with project teams and organizations.

Professional Scrum Master (PSM) with Ken Schwaber

Incrementor will be hosting a Scrum Power Pack with Ken Schwaber in New York from November 3rd to 5th of 2010. The Power Pack is a combination of Ken Schwaber’s Professional Scrum Master Course and Incrementor’s 1-day Scrum Workshop.

Ken, the co-creator of Scrum, created this significant update of the Certified ScrumMaster class that he introduced and shared in 2002. As in the original course, the framework, mechanics, and roles of Scrum are covered. The course then goes further by teaching students how to use Scrum to optimize value, productivity, and the total cost of ownership of systems and products. Students will learn through instruction and team-based exercises, and will be challenged to think on their feet to better understand what to do when they return to their workplaces.This is also the first time that this course is offered in New York City.

The purpose of the Professional ScrumMaster course is to give students a solid grounding in Scrum and its core principles, from which they can make opportunistic decisions about how to use it best. Students learn why certain decisions are better than others, and why some support Agility while others ultimately lead back to waterfall. They will also learn how to use Scrum productivity metrics to monitor the results of their decisions and how to optimize those results.
Getting the most out of Scrum requires a solid knowledge of how it works and why. The 2-day Professional Scrum Master course will cover these as well as several advanced topics, like managing risk and optimizing total cost of ownership, that build on Scrum’s underlying principles.

Directly following the Professional Scrum Master course, on Friday the 5th of November,  Jochen Krebs (Incrementor) will be hosting a 1-day hands-on Scrum Workshop to intensify the learning experience by focusing purely on exercises, case studies, games and ad-hoc facilitation. During the workshop we will have a No-Powerpoint-Slide policy which means we will solely rely on whiteboards, group exercises and discussions. This workshop serves as an ideal intensifier for everyone who took the PSM course. The 1-day workshop is also a great way for everyone who had any Scrum training in the past and would like to practice and apply the Scrum principles.  This is a unique offer, because Incrementor rarely offers open enrollment seminars. We usually provide our courses and workshops privately on client sites. In this case, when we have the opportunities to partner with other industry leaders like Ken we decided to run this session as open enrollment.

Mexico City

On July 27th and July 28th, we delivered the very first time Scrum training in Mexico City.  Although Incrementor focuses to deliver services (including training) in the US northeast, we do travel to work with our customers who have offices abroad or across the US. This occasion was an example of exactly that.

The challenge of this course was without any doubt the language barrier. We weren’t sure if we could deliver the course in English without sacrificing any of the energy and learning goals. On the other hand, we couldn’t deliver the course in Spanish either. Our customer had already made some good experiences with translators in the past and we decided to follow that route. We gave each course element an extra time buffer for translation services. Margarita, our translator on both days, did a great job translating in both directions and it worked out much better than we anticipated.
